FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to the most common FAQS we get asked on working with LAUREN COLLANDER INTERIORS, the interior design process, when to hire a designer, and more!

What does the process of working with Lauren Collander Interiors look like?

Picture yourself relaxing and spending your time doing what you love while we do all the work of narrowing down a million options to the one that’s perfect for you. It looks just like that.

Who needs an Interior Designer?

The better question is, “who doesn’t need an interior designer?” 😉 But seriously, anyone who values good design and recognizes it truly enriches your life.

What if I don’t know my style?

Don’t worry, we specialize in figuring out your style and creating spaces that are specific to your needs and wants.

How do you communicate the design?

We create a presentation of our designs in the form of visual concepts and sketches. You approve them and then we make it happen.

How long does a project take?

Most projects take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the size of the project and the client’s specific needs. We make sure every detail is covered.

How much will my project cost?

It’s hard to say because each project is different from one another. We can tell you the cost is based on the size of the project and the length of time it will take to complete. If you are curious about pricing for a project you have in mind, please reach out to us and we can begin the process of working together and creating a budget.

How do I get ahold of you?

Please go to our Contact page to provide your contact and project details and you will get an email to schedule a time to chat. Our email and phone number are also at the bottom of this page. We’d love to get to know you and see how we can help.

I love pinterest and Houzz, can I show you my boards?

YES! Sharing your boards can help us understand your style better, just add us as a collaborator and we’ll go from there. We love working closely with our clients.

What is your style?

Our style is your style. Our job is to learn about you and your tastes then create a space that embodies you.

No really, what is your style?

Our style is a mix of old and new so spaces look collected over time. Sophisticated and timeless, all while surrounding you with items specific to your experiences in life. Our goal with every project is to make your heart happy and home more functional. When everything has it’s place, you can concentrate on the things most important to you.

Are you going to make me replace everything in my home?

We wouldn’t dream of it! We will review what you own and create a balanced look that incorporates the items that are important to you. Do you have your Grandpa’s chair and love it? Let’s get it recovered and use it! Did your mother-in-law paint you a clown playing the piano and it’s above your sofa? We’ll find a more … appropriate place for it and replace it with something that makes you happy when you look at it.

What’s the difference between a decorator and a designer?

Oooh, good question! Decorators do an important job but they are different from designers. Here’s an explanation of the difference that we found (and love) from another website:

“Interior design is the art and science of understanding people’s behavior to create functional spaces within a building. Decoration is the furnishing or adorning of a space with fashionable or beautiful things. In short, interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design. Interior designers apply creative and technical solutions within a structure that are functional, attractive and beneficial to the occupants’ quality of life and culture. Designers respond to and coordinate with the building shell and acknowledge the physical location and social context of the project.”

This process will happen just like it does on TV, right?

Life would be so wonderful if everything happened just like it does on TV, wouldn’t it?

When should I hire a designer in a project?

Yesterday. OK, maybe not yesterday, but the happiest clients are the ones that hire us on Day 1. Go to our Contact page and we’ll get to know each other ASAP.
