Project Overview:
This home is a celebration of joy. A haven shaped by balance, creativity, and the beauty of the unexpected. Rooted in the belief that our environment reflects our inner world, every space invites tranquility, playfulness, and emotion. Pops of color, unique craftsmanship, and intentional details come together to create a home that feels soulful, expressive, and deeply personal. Designing this home was especially meaningful as it marks our seventh project with this fun, vibrant family. With their family growing, they asked us to design a home that fits them perfectly. They love color, humor, sentimentality, and anything that sparks joy, making this the ideal canvas for exploring dopamine décor, an emerging design concept centered on visual happiness and emotional comfort.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen is the soulful centerpiece of the home designed to be bold, textural, and joyfully eclectic. Deep hunter green cabinetry sets the tone, grounded and rich, while pops of burnt sienna on the counter stools add warmth and playful contrast. A custom fluted hood stands proudly above the range, its brass vertical detailing along with the polished Nero Blanco marble and brass mosaic backsplash becomes a sculptural focal point of the space. Brass details are echoed intentionally throughout the space: in the cabinetry hardware, the antique star chandeliers, and the tile that wraps the side of the island.
Natural materials and organic shapes ground the space like the arched opening lined with wood reeding the honed Andes Black quartzite countertops. Two islands invite connection, creativity, and gathering, while custom furniture-like cabinetry along the perimeter hides kid-friendly craft storage. This kitchen is alive with color, character, and purpose.
Flowing effortlessly from the kitchen, the dining area is inviting, and deeply connected to the outdoors. Sunlight floods the space through generous skylights and a wall of glass bifold doors that fully open to the backyard turning this dining area into a seamless indoor–outdoor retreat.
A custom sculptural wood dining table, upholstered performance-fabric chairs, and hand-carved alabaster globe chandelier create earthy cohesiveness and a casual, inviting space ready for everyday meals or can be extended for gatherings of up to 14.
Lady Vortex / Office
A hidden door off the foyer hides a fun-filled surprise. Part creative playground, part organizational command center, the Lady Vortex is a space bursting with personality. High-gloss purple cabinetry sets an energizing tone, contrasted with bold House of Hackney wallpaper that wraps the room in pattern and imagination. A chandelier adorned with coco shells adds sculptural texture overhead.
A round table invites kids to join in for crafts, creativity, and homework, while the built-in desk offers a dedicated spot for laptop work. Above it glows a neon message that sums up the spirit of the space: “a little weird is good.” Smart storage keeps family life running smoothly, blending function and whimsy with ease.
Library
The library is a quiet retreat that is intimate, layered, and full of character. Painted built-ins are styled with lived-in books and personal treasures. Overhead, an abstract chevron hemp wallpaper spreads across the ceiling, adding organic movement and subtle drama. Two upholstered swivel lounge chairs and a playful ottoman form a cozy reading nook, while bistro tables support chess games, puzzles, and slow family moments. A sliding ladder adds classic charm, making the space feel instantly storied.
Family Room
The family room is a cozy sanctuary with large windows providing sweeping views of the backyard, letting greenery and natural light fill the space. The Calacatta Gold fireplace forms a stunning focal point, topped with Roman clay paint in Charleston for a soft, earthy touch.
A deep lounge sectional with channel details invites movie nights, family cuddles, and relaxed weekends. Nesting wood cocktail tables and a tucked-away ottoman support flexible living. Unexpected lighting, including a leather-strand chandelier with an elegant swag, adds movement and warmth. This room is grounding, comfortable, and meant to be lived in.
Pool House Great Room and Bar
The pool house great room is all about flexibility and fun. A modular sofa with moveable back cushions transforms into endless layouts: facing the pool for summer parties, arranged traditionally for family time, or opened up for energetic kid sessions.
Arched built-in shelving niches add architectural beauty, backed with shimmering metallic wallcovering that reflects shifting light throughout the day. Overhead, playful ceiling-mounted light fixtures sprawl across the room, giving the space an energized, celebratory feel. This room adapts to every moment: relaxed, festive, or family-focused.
The adjacent pool house bar is a relaxed yet elevated gathering space designed for effortless hosting. Rift-cut white oak in a silvered gray finish with brass inlay wraps the bar, while a barrel-vaulted ceiling adds architectural charm. The smoked-glass and brown nickel chandelier casts a warm, moody glow and bar-height tables can be rearranged at a moment’s notice, perfect for cocktails, puzzles, or impromptu gatherings.
Wine Room
The wine room sits behind a full smoked glass wall, turning storage into spectacle. Custom shelving displays bottles and crates like curated art, while the floor, a brick-look tile painted ash gray in a herringbone pattern, adds warmth and old-world charm. An oversized chandelier crowns the room, filling the space with drama and soft ambient glow.
Primary Bedroom Suite
The primary suite is designed for serenity and soul-soothing rest. Neutral textures, inviting seating, and a soft, loungy atmosphere define the space. A vintage-inspired hand-knotted rug introduces muted hues of blue, magenta, gold, and green that bring quiet energy to the space.
A double-sided fireplace wrapped in Taj Mahal stone separates the sleeping area from a soft sitting room, where natural light pours in through large windows. His-and-her lounge chairs offer a peaceful place to read, rest, or simply breathe.
The primary bath is a luxurious, spa-like sanctuary. Linen-textured wallcovering creates a calm backdrop for the floating rift-sawn white oak vanity. Arched mirrors framed in antique brass pair with elongated alabaster sconces to create a warm, inviting glow. Taj Mahal quartzite tops the vanity, while Brizo Litze fixtures in luxe gold elevate the experience. A resin bubble chandelier hovers above the ergonomic oval tub, which sits against a textural wood-look tile wall and beneath a sunlit window. Oversized floor tiles inspired by Ceppo di Gre stone add grounding beauty to the serene space.
His Office
This dark, atmospheric workspace features a striking wallcovering made of handspun yarns woven into a chunky, tactile surface. Sherwin-Williams Raccoon Fur sets a deep backdrop for the surrounding walls, ceilings, and custom built-ins. A swivel chair in soft heirloom top-grain leather (with subtle tufting) pairs with a drink table and floor lamp, creating a small lounge zone perfect for reading or quiet focus.
Kid’s Bedrooms
The first bedroom features a built-in loft play space, creating a magical perch for games and imagination. Below it, the bed rests in a curved alcove with integrated niche storage on both sides. Painted in Sherwin Williams Daphne, this room is a calming and dreamy retreat. Overhead, a clear bubble chandelier crafted from handblown glass adds youthful sparkle.
A built-in bed with a hidden trundle, painted in Benjamin Moore Hunter Green, becomes the centerpiece of this playful second kid’s room. Above the bed, stained wood shelving displays books, toys, and decor, illuminated by sculptural sconces. The setup is both functional and fun, with the bed tucked to the side, allowing more floor space for play.
