After honing in on our client’s love for art and pops of color, we found playful ways to incorporate this aesthetic into the design of this eclectic and polished family home. We commissioned local Chicago artist Britni Mara to create a spectacular wall-to-canvas mural in the home’s foyer, accentuating the height of the space and incorporating the client’s passion for art and family. Britni Mara commissioned the help of the couple’s 2-year-old son to paint a portion of the mural, leaving his mark forever more on the home. It was the perfect surprise touch for mom and dad – they adored it – and, will cherish it every time they pass through the room!
The dining room wallpaper and color palette were designed to coordinate with the artwork in the foyer. The result is a space that’s modern and inviting to entertain friends and family in. The main living space felt the rush of new natural light created by adding larger windows flanking the fireplace. A bold and modern art piece is showcased over the dark stone fireplace. A substantial sofa brought proper scale to the living space when placed in front of large windows and allows for perfect gazing into the backyard. A metallic cork wallcovering was added to the ceiling to complete the space. The separate office space comes alive with beautiful artwork and a dark accent wall.
In the basement, we included a dedicated playspace for the couple’s son with hidden storage and a fun New York skyline wallcovering. A secret door reveals an adult entertaining space complete with a lounge and bar. We created a gritty yet lux design by combining bold wall coverings and beautiful patterns. Nestled away on one side of the basement is another office space where we incorporated more beloved art pieces.
Upstairs the client’s son’s room has another fun wallcovering moment! The design was taken from the real-life drawings done by a special kiddo whose work inspires so many. We loved incorporating it into this room. In the primary bedroom, we enveloped the walls and ceiling in rich textures and colors for a cocoon-like effect. Another Britni Mara piece in the primary bathroom adds exactly the right amount of bold color to the space and ties back to the front entry of the home.
