Project Overview:
Classic French details meet state-of-the-art baking technology in this kitchen remodel. Our professional baker and professional dishwasher (hehe), husband-and-wife-team clients wished to refresh their outdated Kitchen/Great Room area. This couple’s love of French country design and entertaining provided the inspiration for layout, materials, and design features. A farmhouse sink, baker’s pantry and what we like to call “Baker’s Island” are just a few elements that transport you to a European cottage. What is Baker’s Island, you ask? Well, it is a classic kitchen island to which we have added all the baking bells and whistles; deep storage, a warming drawer, and even flour and sugar inserts.
We enlarged the kitchen window to bring in as much light and views of the outside greenery as possible (and provide the professional dishwasher with an updated vista). The backsplash that also surrounds the window is a hand-glazed, glossy square ceramic tile that varies in warm and cool neutral tones. To tie in the existing warm-toned oak wood flooring and window trim, accessories like wooden chopping boards, cake stands and the copper Kitchen-Aid were added to carry the brighter warm tones throughout the space.
Since no modern kitchen is complete without a coffee and tea corner, we elevated the idea with traditional brass and glass French bistro style shelving. The entire space opens to the seating area where friends and family can roam and sit comfortably with their baked goods in hand.
The built-ins surrounding the fireplace were painted white and a new mantle was installed. We kept the existing brick, which if you look closely, coordinates perfectly with the kitchen cabinetry colors. A special thank you to our client for providing all the baked goods for photoshoot day, they were beautiful and delicious!
