Out of a devastating situation, came the silver lining of a full home renovation. A Chicago home in the Logan Square neighborhood was devastated by a fire. Taken down to the studs, this home was redesigned and rebuilt to create a fresh start for a young family. While this renovation started out of necessity, it created a family home that answered all of the client’s wish list hopes and dreams. We’re proud that we were able to help them build back a home that they could love even more. This renovation set them up with a space that would be the backdrop for childhood memories and adult entertaining all while filling the deep seeded need we all have – to feel comfortable at home.
This project, which we call The Phoenix, is all about revival—honoring tradition in fresh, unexpected ways. With a long, narrow Chicago layout, we reimagined every space to be functional, stylish, and deeply personal for their family. From the colorful kitchen to the moody basement lounge and fun kids’ bedrooms, every level tells a story.
You’ll notice an attention to architectural balance as the family room bookcases not only provide space to showcase beloved treasures, but also balance the fireplace they flank and also the weight of the kitchen cabinetry at the opposite end of the home. Design details like the warm woods, cognac leather, stained beams, painted cabinets, textures like the beadboard ceiling in the kitchen, were all carefully selected to create a design that felt current yet cozy, and not like a brand new build. The Phoenix also reflects the clients amazing personal style – from the wallpaper selections to the rich green kitchen cabinetry color, amplifying their style was a joy. Lastly, while this home is sophisticated in design, it is approachable in feel – more than anything else, we wanted this family and their guests to feel welcome in a very livable Chicago home.
